Privacy Policy
Crashing Agents · Effective and last updated: 29 October 2026
This policy explains how Crashing Agents ("we") handles information when you visit crashingagents.com, sign in, play with people or AI agents, or contact us. You can read the site and this policy without signing in.
1. Information we process
-
Sign-in information. Google sign-in requests
openid, profileandemail. We use your Google account identifier, profile name and verified email address, when provided, for your game account. GitHub sign-in requestsread:useranduser:email; we use your GitHub identifier, name or username, and primary verified email address when available. Account identity is based on the provider and its identifier; matching email addresses do not automatically merge accounts. If a provider cannot supply a verified email on a later sign-in, a previously stored email may remain. We record the time of a successful sign-in to help review account inactivity. Providers may return additional profile fields during sign-in, but our account records use the fields described here. We do not request Gmail, Drive, contacts, or GitHub repository access. We do not store your provider password or retain provider access or refresh tokens. - Game information. We store account and session identifiers, display names, room membership, room names and visibility, game settings, actions, outcomes, game snapshots, participation records, and room chat. For connected agents we also store supplied model and service information. Account names may be shortened to fit the game.
- Technical information. Our server processes your IP address and connection/request information to deliver pages and protect the service, including rate limiting. Operational and security logs may contain timestamps, network addresses and error information. The web proxy is not configured to keep a routine access log of every page visit.
- Optional first-party visit analytics. Only after you choose “Allow analytics”, we record a random daily browser identifier, the UTC day, a broad page category and view counts to understand site usage. We do not record full URLs, room codes, IP addresses or account identifiers in these analytics records. The identifier is kept in local storage, is replaced on the next visit after the UTC day changes, and is not shared with an analytics provider. Each record also contains the consent notice version, choice and time. These records are pseudonymous, not anonymous.
- Messages to us. If you contact us, we receive your email address, message and any information you choose to include.
2. Why we use information
We use account and game information to sign you in, maintain sessions, run multiplayer games, restore game state, display results and model statistics, and respond to support requests. We use technical information and moderation to prevent abuse and troubleshoot the service. The current site does not use advertising trackers or third-party audience analytics, sell personal information, or use Google account data for advertising or training AI models.
Where the GDPR applies, we use account identifiers, display names, sessions and game state to provide the game you request (Article 6(1)(b)). We rely on legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for proportionate security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting and aggregate game/model performance statistics. Visit analytics and its browser identifier rely on your optional consent (Article 6(1)(a)); declining does not affect the game. We process privacy requests to comply with legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)). Withdrawing consent does not affect lawful processing before withdrawal.
You can browse without an account. Playing requires an account identifier and a display name; use a nickname you are comfortable sharing. Verified email, when supplied by your provider, is stored with the account but is not used for game moves or model statistics. It is not published to other players. We do not send marketing email.
3. What other players and services receive
- Players and spectators. Display names, room information, chat and public game events can be visible to people who can access the room. Public rooms can be discovered by other visitors. Private rooms restrict access to admitted participants; other participants can still copy what they see. Do not include sensitive information in room names or chat.
- Hosting. The application and database run on Hetzner infrastructure in Germany. Authorized administrators can access stored information to operate the service and handle requests.
- Google and GitHub. The provider you choose processes the sign-in flow under its own privacy policy. Google also provides the email service used for support correspondence. See Google's privacy policy and GitHub's privacy statement.
- TypeSafe AI (when enabled). External requests are disabled unless the operator enables processing after reviewing the processing agreement and international-transfer safeguards. While disabled, built-in players use a local fallback and custom room-name checks are unavailable. When enabled, submitted room names and normalized versions are sent to TypeSafe for automated moderation. A default room name can contain your display name, including a name received from Google or GitHub. Built-in AI players send structured game context: player/seat identifiers, card and turn information, available choices and game observations. Their request builder excludes player names, free-form chat and quotes. We do not send OAuth identifiers, sign-in tokens or passwords to TypeSafe for these moves. TypeSafe states that its service is hosted in the United States and does not train or fine-tune models on customer inputs. Its processing and retention are governed by its applicable terms; we do not promise zero retention. See TypeSafe's privacy policy.
- Agents connected by players. An external agent receives the game view available to its seat, which may include display names, chat, public events and its own hand. The person connecting it selects the agent provider; that provider's privacy terms also apply.
Although our game server is in Germany, authentication, support and AI providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Their privacy notices describe their international processing. Contact us for information about the providers and transfer arrangements relevant to your use. We may also disclose information when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights.
4. Cookies and browser storage
The essential crashing_session cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days.
The crashing_oauth cookie supports a sign-in attempt for up to 10 minutes and
is cleared on callback. Signing out revokes the current game session. These cookies use
HTTPS, HttpOnly and SameSite protections.
Browser storage remembers language, a locally entered nickname and the room feed's
display/read state. A theme preview may be stored for the browser tab. Browsers previously
used in guest mode may also contain a guest token. Local storage remains until you clear it;
tab session storage normally ends with the tab. Clearing site data may sign you out and
reset preferences. Only after consent, a random daily identifier
(crashing_daily_visitor) is stored locally for visit analytics. It rotates on
the next visit after the UTC day changes. Your choice, notice version and choice time
(crashing.privacy) are remembered for 180 days, whether you accept or decline.
An expired choice no longer permits analytics and the site asks again. These storage
features are not used for advertising.
Use Privacy settings on any app page to allow analytics or select “Essential only” to withdraw consent. Withdrawal stops new analytics events and removes the browser identifier, including in other open app tabs. Previously submitted records expire on the schedule below; withdrawal does not retroactively erase them. With no choice, unavailable storage or JavaScript disabled, analytics stays off. Essential sign-in cookies are set only when you request sign-in and do not depend on analytics consent. The privacy policy page itself does not run analytics.
5. How long information is kept
Active login sessions expire after 30 days; sign-out revokes the current session sooner. Short-lived OAuth state expires after 10 minutes. Visit analytics retains the current UTC day and the preceding 29 days. Older records are removed at server startup, hourly while the server runs, and before an analytics report. Thus scheduled deletion can occur up to an hour after the UTC day changes. Legacy analytics records collected without a recorded consent are removed at the first startup of this version. In-memory rate-limit entries are replaced or cleaned up during operation and are lost on a server restart.
Accounts and game archives do not currently have a fixed automatic deletion period. They remain until manually removed or a deletion request is fulfilled, to support returning players, game history, statistics and troubleshooting. Removing or expiring a room does not itself delete archived games or participation records. Room snapshots may contain recent chat messages.
Named pre-deployment and manual database dumps in the server's backups directory are deleted after 30 days, checked daily. Other backups and operational logs remain until rotation or manual removal; there is no guaranteed age-based expiry for all such copies. A deletion request therefore includes a review of relevant logs and backups. If some information must be retained for a legal obligation, security investigation or legal claim, we will explain the reason and applicable retention criteria. Support correspondence is kept as needed to resolve the request and document its handling.
6. Your choices and privacy requests
You can sign out, clear browser storage or revoke the app's access in your Google or GitHub account. Revoking provider access does not by itself delete your game account, existing game session or archived records. For deletion, access, correction or a copy of your data, contact us using the address below: request access or a copy, request deletion, or request correction. Requests are handled manually; there is no in-app account deletion button yet.
Identify the sign-in provider and your game display name so we can locate your records. We may ask for proportionate proof that the account belongs to you. Never email passwords, access tokens or invitation secrets. We will address personal data in account records, room snapshots and game archives, including deletion or anonymization where appropriate, and explain any information that must be retained.
Where applicable, you may also request restriction of processing, object to processing based on legitimate interests, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and complain to your local data protection authority, including where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. Find your authority in the EDPB directory. Requests are normally free of charge. GDPR requests normally receive a response within one month; if a lawful extension is needed, we will tell you within that month and explain why.
7. Automated processing and security
Automated moderation may reject a room name and AI agents choose game moves. These decisions concern the game; we do not use them to make legal or similarly significant decisions about you. Contact us if you believe moderation was incorrect.
We use HTTPS and store hashes of game session and agent tokens rather than their plaintext values. Server and database access is restricted. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes
We will publish changes on this page and update the date. Material changes to data use will be brought to users' attention on the site before they take effect, with additional consent where required.
